About

A Solo Adventure Book. A Choose Your Own Adventure combined with small tactical battles.

Thoughts

Tim:
1/5 Bad

Why the low score? This is nothing more than a Choose Your Own Adventure book but it was marketed as more. The addition of "Battle Maps" so that you could have small tactical battles is meaningless. If you read the story and simply assume you win every encounter not a single thing is different except that you have a couples hours of your life back. Without tactics, you just roll the dice over and over until you or your enemy wins.

The second issue is that this story is very much "on rails". All of the encounters in the game can be broken down to beginner, experienced, and expert. You pretty much have to complete the encounters in a specific order so that you can level up or you will absolutely die. The problem is that this order is absolutely random. Kind of like the old Choose Your Own Adventure Books where you come to a dead end hallway and have to choose between a left and a right door. The left gives you riches, and the right just kills you.

If it was sold as a Choose Your Own Adventure book I'd give it a 5/10 (Dead Average). Less than average for the story as it's easy to break the story and have no way to end the adventure for good or bad, but some really incredible artwork and a perfect graphic presentation. I just wish it had the tactics it promised.
